Approximately 90 black and white photographs, documenting the service of soldier in the Jewish Brigade during WWII. Nahariya, Acre, Alexandria, Cairo, Fiuggi, Tarvisio, Manheim, Berlin, Amsterdam, Antwerp and other places, 1940-1946 (most photos were taken during 1944-1945). Apparently, the soldier served in the second of the three units of the Jewish Brigade of the Palestine Regiment which was formed in 1942 in Haifa, sent to Libya in 1943 and fought in Italy in 1944. The collection consists of the following: * Approximately 15 photos of Palestine, from 1940-1943: two photos of training in the Nahariya camp (signed on verso "Oriental company of photographs for the newspapers [Photo Z. Kluger])" / Zoltan Kluger; weapon training in the Atlit camp; group photos in the Ezov camp; the division's ballroom; etc. * Approximately 30 photographs of North Africa, from 1943-1944: the soldiers near the Fascist Party headquarters in Benghazi; Cairo zoo; two soldiers riding horses in Derna; and more. * Approximately 30 photos of Italy, from 1944-1945: Brigade soldiers waving the Israeli flag during roll call; visit by the brigade commander, Brigadier Levi Binyamin at the Italian ranch; brigade soldiers kindling Chanukah lights in 1944; Moshe Sharett visiting soldiers at the front in 1945; four photos of the cemetery of the brigade soldiers in Italy: a photo of the graves of three of the first brigade soldiers who fell and a photo of the grave plots; soldier's club in Tarvisio; tents; encounters with refugees; Hebrew military band in Italy; etc. * Approximately 30 photos from Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands, from 1945-1946: German soldier cleaning the streets supervised by the brigade soldiers; a German soldier saluting the Commander of the Jewish Brigade Levi Binyamin; SS soldiers eating from a mess-pail supervised by Jewish soldiers; etc. Most of the photos are described and dated by hand on their verso (most in Hebrew, some in English and in other languages). Twelve are stamped on the verso: "F.B. Fotobureau F. [Felix] L. Baehr", and four are stamped: "Thee Orient Press Photo Company (Photo Z. Kluger / Zoltan Kluger)". Enclosed: * A membership notebook of the Released Soldiers' Association, issued in Tel Aviv in 1946 for a soldier named Shimon Bahar (with a photo of the soldier, a stamp of the association and postage stamps). * A passport photo of the soldier. Approximately 90 photographs. Size and condition vary. Overall good-fair condition.
