The Ballet Orpheus was commissioned from Stravinsky by the Ballet Society. It was choreographed by George Balanchine, with props designed by Isamu Noguchi Most of the present images are of the lead dancers, Nicholas Magallanes and Francisco Moncion. It was this ballet that led to the invitation of the Society to become the permanent ballet company of the City Center of Music and Drama, under its new name, the New York City Ballet.
