Einige Tafeln im oberen und oder unteren Rand knapp beschnitten (teilw. bis Bild- oder Plattenrand). Tafel Sectio VI, Nr. 1 mit zwei Flecken, die Tafelnummerierung beschnitten u. handschriftlich im linken Rand ergänzt. 2 vordere Vorsatzbll. u. Titel alt mit Tinte nummeriert bzw. datiert. First edition, splendidly illustrated with engr. frontispiece, title-vignette, headpiece and initial, 51 engravings on 47 mostly folding plates and 9 (1 full-page) engravings in text. "In 1755... the Hapspurgs decided to establish a great astronomical observatory. Its basic equipment was to be the instruments of the late imperial mathematician and geodetic surveyor, J. J. de Marinoni, who had made his house, on a relatively favorable site at the edge of Vienna, into an astronomical observatory" (DSB VI, 233). - Minor spotting and slight thumbing in places. Upper and lower margin of few plates somewhat trimmed close to platemark or image. One plate (Sectio VI, no. 1) with two spots, numbering cut away and supplied by hand. Small old ms. number to title. Contemporary calf, spine richly gilt, slightly rubbed in places, small wormtrace to upper cover.
