Adolf Busch was leader of the legendary Busch Quartet, which flourished between 1918 and 1945 with remarkably few personnel changes and made some of the greatest ever recordings of chamber music, particularly of the late string quartets of Beethoven. Serkin was Busch's regular duo partner from 1920, when he was only 15, until the latter's death in 1952. He married Busch's daughter Irene in 1935.
