Nuremberg: Johann Hoffmann, 1658. 4 o (257 x 185 mm). Woodcut initials, two leaves of printed music, large folding plate at end. Contemporary pink-paper covered boards (chipping and splitting to spine). Provenance : Candid von Engelshofen (1803-66) Austrian historian (with his library stamp "V. Engelshofen" and shelfmark on title-page); Franz, Count of Thun-Hohenstein (1809-70) (armorial bookplate "Ex libris Franc com a Thun Hohenstein Tetschen"). Description of the triumphal arch erected in Nuremberg in 1658 in honor of LEOPOLD I (1640-1705), Holy Roman Emperor (1658-1705), King of Bohemia (1656-1705) and of Hungary (1655-1705), on the occasion of his entry into that city. The description is followed by a laudatory poem by Harsdoerffer, one of the most prolific writers of the German Baroque. Furthermore it includes a composition by PAUL HEINLEIN (1626-1686), the well-known Baroque composer and musician. The large folding plate depicts in the upper half a fine view of Nuremberg, and below the entry of Leopold into the city. The printed explanatory text of the procession is tipped onto the plate and makes up the lower portion. Drugulin 2468 (the engraved plate).
