Pencil and ink on index card, measuring 4x6", signed "Von," his early pen name. Excellent condition. An early drawing created by Vaughn Bodé for his first book, Das Kampf, a military-and-Peanuts spoof Bodé created shortly after Uncle Sam booted him out of the Army for going AWOL. The book, originally published in 1963 in a mimeographed edition of 100 copies, is one of the first Underground comic books. This early strip is marked "Das Kumpf" in the lower left, reflecting Bodé's original working title for the project. "Vaughn Bodé was a student at Syracuse University and a regular contributor to the Syracuse daily Orange, where his comic strips Gline and Junkwaffel Papers appeared.
