OVIDIUS NASO, Publius (43 B.C. -?17 A.D.)]. Le trasformationi di M. Lodovico Dolce in questa terza impression di nuova da lui reviste, & emendate. Venice: Gabriel Giolito de Ferrari, 1555. 4° (222 x 147mm). Title with Giolito's phoenix device and woodcut architectural border, larger device on verso of final leaf (recto blank), world map on Aiiv, 94 woodcuts in the text, woodcut head- and tail-pieces and initial letters throughout. (Head of title border just shaved, small neat manuscript '10' beneath title.) 18th-century olive morocco, elaborate roll borders, spine richly gilt in compartments, red morocco spine label, gilt turn-ins, edges marbled and gilt (joints expertly repaired). Provenance : A.L. McLaughlin (armorial bookplate at end).

The superb woodcuts were designed specifically for Dolce's work and Giolito's artist chose a number of subjects not illustrated in previous editions of Ovid.
