Photograph album containing approximately 122 carte-de-visite photographs, nearly all albumen prints, apparently compiled by a crew member of the U.S.S. Mohican, an American whaling vessel operating in the Pacific and West Indies, with a group photograph of the Mohican officers and several photographs from Chile, Peru and Hawaii, circa 1863-1870, album perished, photograph condition varies but generally very good. Includes portraits of ladies and city views from Valparaiso and Lima, three photographs of Chilean Indians, four views of Panama, two of Hawaiian girls in native costume, a street scene in St. Thomas, waterfall in Kauai, several portraits by H.L. Chase of Honolulu, a scene of the mudflow in Kauai after the destructive earthquake of April 2, 1868 and another of a destroyed church, the King’s residence at Waikiki, view of the harbor at St. Thomas, two Havana street scenes, three portraits from San Francisco, etc.; about half or more of the photographs appear to have been gathered on the travels of the Mohican, the others are portraits from home.
