Beschreibung:

A silver gelatin photograph of western artist Charlie Russell standing with his horse in front of his log cabin studio, completed ca 1903, 4.75 x 6.75 in., mounted on paper, 6.75 x 8.75 in. During the early 1900s, after Charlie Russell's new home had been completed in Great Falls, MT, Russell told his wife that he wanted to have a log studio, just like the cabin in which he used to live. Mrs. Russell then had a log studio built west of their house. According to Rick Stewart, author of Charles M. Russell: Sculptor, Mrs. Russell wrote From that day to the end of his life he loved that telephone-pole building more than any other place on earth and after it was built he never finished a painting anywhere else (1994: 24). A similar photograph of Russell standing in front of the studio is illustrated in Stewart's book, page 24. In 1966, the Russell home and the adjacent log cabin studio were designated a National Historic Landmark. Condition: Even toning to image; very light, scattered staining; wear to paper mount.
