pp.199-202 in The Horn Book Magazine, Vol.XX No.3, "Twentieth Anniversary Number", advertisements, original printed wrappers, 8vo, Boston, May-June 1944. *** The first appearance of Wag-by-Wall, originally conceived in 1909 as The Little Black Kettle and subsequently rewritten in 1929 to be included in The Fairy Caravan. In the end it was left out and it was not until 1940 that it was again revised for inclusion in the Christmas issue of The Horn Book, but instead held back for this special anniversary issue in 1944. This issue also includes an article by Bertha E. Mahoney, entitled 'Beatrix Potter in Letters' including many photographs relating to Hill Top and other Lake District scenes, plus a photographic frontispiece portrait of Beatrix Potter and Alison Hart (to also feature as frontispiece in The Horn Book's separate publication as well)
