Autograph letter signed to Ira Purley, n.p., December 1848, 1 page, 4to, integral address leaf, requesting his help with urgent matters relating to his law practice: "...My business at Manchester must suffer unless you will come to my aid...If you will try the case & attend to my other business you will greatly oblige me..." -- TAFT, WILLIAM, H. Autograph letter signed to A. H. Tyson, New Haven, Connecticut, 27 November 1917, 2 pages, 8vo, on pages one and four of a four-page sheet of personal stationery, commenting on the rarity of his handwritten Presidential letters: "I am glad to have my chirography in your interesting collection. What you say in respect to typewriting and stenography is very true. I find few letters written by me in my own hand during my term in the White House. These new methods greatly aid in the despatch [ sic ] of business... If you were a friend of George Curtis, we have in common [a] cherished memory of one of the best men I ever knew...," [ With ] an envelope addressed to "A.H. Tyson, Esq., 43 Cellar Street, New York City," in Taft's own hand -- VAN BUREN, MARTIN. Autograph letter signed to S. Cambreling, Kinderhook, New York, 10 April 1849, 1 1/4 pages, 4to, integral address leaf with panel bearing VAN BUREN'S FREE-FRANK, the former President is sending by river barge a barrel of apples "for your venerable brother. I do not know the name of the vessel but your man will have no trouble in finding her...My advice to you is to retain half, and send the balance in a Barrel to the old people.
