The oak support is made up of three evenly spaced planks. The two joins have been reinforced, there is slight movement along them, they are slightly stepped and have minor paint loss. The lower plank has a 25cm horizontal hairline fracture. The wood grain runs horizontally and is slightly raised in some areas. The paint layer is stable and secure and many fine and subtle details are intact. Original paint texture and impasted highlights are preserved. Subtle rendering of the objects and the crispness of the paint finish is evident. It is indistinctly signed lower left in the tablecloth. Some thinness to the paint layer in the background has been augmented along with minor loss along the raised wood grain through the tablecloth. Chromatic complexity and integrity are very well retained and tonal subtlety would be improved with the removal of a patchy discoloured varnish.
