RAF - Iraq. A photograph album compiled by Wing Commander A.E. Blundell, circa 1931-32, containing photographs of 30 Squadron Wapiti biplane, RAF training camps, the war zone, excavations at Babylon, crashed aircraft, Kurds in retreat, mosques, Bedouins, service life, etc., and containing material on the actions taken agains the Kurdish leader Sheikh Ahmed Barzun (aka Armad Barzani), also containing a photograph of Blundell and his associates from World War II when training pilots in Rhodesia, and a later photograph with his wife in Stafford, a total of approximately 150 mostly small-format black and white photographs but including 23 each 16.5 x 21.5cm, all corner mounted on to album leaves and back to back with white china ink captions to most mounts, contemporary cloth with spine tie in limp cloth slipcase, oblong small folio, together with a group of three to Sergeant J.H. Blundell, Royal Air Force Defence and War Medals, Royal Air Force Long Service & G.C., E.II.R. (592032 Sgt. J.H. Blundell. R.A.F.), unofficially engraved in san-serif capitals, good very fine, mounted for wearing, with a copper business card plate for Wing Commander A.E. Blundell plus WWI dress miniature awards. The Ahmed Barzani revolt was the first major Barzani revolt and the third Kurdish nationalistic insurrection in modern Iraq. The revolt began in 1931, after Ahmed Barzani, a prominent Kurdish leader, succeeded in unifying a number of the other Kurdish tribes. The Barzan forces were eventually overpowered by Iraqi army with British support. (-)
