REAGAN, Ronald (1911-2004) and Richard G. HUBLER. Where ’ s the Rest of Me? New York: Duell, Sloan and Pearce, 1965. Photographic illustrations. Original cloth; original printed dust jacket (price-clipped, some light chipping). Fourth printing. Famous for uttering the line, “Where’s the rest of me” in his blockbuster movie King ’ s Row , Reagan wrote and released this autobiography while running for Governor in California. Reagan concludes his work: "if we do our job as parents, our children will take the bad with the good and not whimper. If Nancy passes on the lessons she learned from her mother (and I'm sure she will), Patti will know when to take off the make-believe had and put on the one befitting her real role in life. The days stretch ahead with promise. The city closes in on the ranch - we prowl the countryside scouting a new location. I should turn to the sages for some profound utterance to close out these words. Still, it is more fitting that a remark by the King of the actors, Clark Gable, sticks in my mind. Clark said, 'The most important thing a man can know is that, as he approaches his own door, someone on the other side is listening for the sound of his footsteps.' I have found the rest of me" (p.301).
