Four parts in one volume. Elaborate engraved title-page, pages within woodcut typographical border, woodcut capitals, head- and tailpieces, woodcut portrait of the author (D1v), 160 woodcut emblems attributed to Jobst Amman and Virgil Solis, large woodcut printer's device at end. (Very light damp-staining to some lower margins). Seventeenth-century vellum (remains of ties). Provenance : Hubertus Hacom (ownership inscription dated 1584 on margin of title-page, deleted notes in margins of pp.6 and 7); acquired in 1968. FIRST EDITION. Numerous dedicatory verses (one addressed to Jacobus Fugger); each emblem honoring an individual of note (including Albinus, Camararius, Henry Stephens, J. Scaliger, Jacobus Fugger, Christian Egenolph. Brunet IV, 1255; Landwehr German 496. Praz, 137.
