RIDINGER, Johann Elias (1698-1767). Le Nouveau Manège... Neue Reit Schül . Augsburg: Johann Elias Ridinger 1734. 2° (c.558 x c.390mm). Engraved title and 17 plates, with captions in French, German and Latin, plates 2-6 numbered in the engraving, the others unnumbered. (The verso of the plates with trace of removal from mounts, a few short tears in the margins some of these neatly repaired, light soiling.) Modern blue half morocco, the spine gilt in compartments with equestrian tools, the plates mounted on stubs. A COMPLETE EXAMPLE OF THIS RARE MASTERPIECE OF EQUESTRIAN ENGRAVING. ABPC records no complete set selling at auction in over 35 years. Ridinger was one of the leading animal artists of his day, and painted for several aristocrats passionate about hunting.
