Autograph Letter Signed ("Theodore Roosevelt"), 2 ½ pp recto and verso, 8vo (conjoining leaves), Oyster Bay, Long Island, July 6, 1885, to A.T. Rice, on personal stationery, second leaf tipped at all edges to album leaf. Concerning an article that Roosevelt is to write for the North American Review." In part: "Will you kindly tell me if the article you requested me to write for you on the Administration is to go in the August 'Review'? I can have it finished by the 15th, but I should like to know a little as to when it is to appear, if there are in the same or any subsequent copy of the 'Review' other articles on the same subject, whether they are to be answers to mine, and if so whether I will have a chance to reply, and who the authors will be ... I wish to know a little about what scientists would call the 'environment' of my article." Provenance: The Presidential Autograph Collection of Alfred L. Baker. See illustration.
