SAINT-SAËNS, Camille (1835-1921). Autograph manuscript signed and dated of Ave Maria in E major, scored for organ and choir, inscribed on the first page à M Théodore Biais, Ave Maria and at the end Juin 1866, Camille Saint-Saëns , black ink, a few minor corrections, some in pencil, 4 pages, 6 systems of 3 staves on pages 1 and 2, 5 on page 3 and 4 on page 4, sewn, later boards, 350 x 270mm. The E major Ave Maria was originally composed circa 1859 and published in 1866, the year of the current manuscript. Whereas the earlier version was scored for baritone solo and organ, the present manuscript is scored for Choeur in the treble clef and organ.
