Saint-Saëns') and dated, 6 January 1865, of the song 'Clair de Lune', printer's markings manuscript, 3 pages, 4to , on a bifolium (heavy browning to upper and lower margins of first and blank last page; spotting); in a 20th-century black calf slip case. An atmospheric setting of a lyric by Catulle Mendès, evoking the poet in a dream-forest caught between the weak light of the moon and the 'frèle image' of the lost loved one. The dedicatee of the song, Mme Marie Barbier, was the wife of the librettist for Saint-Saëns's projected work Le Timbre d'Argent .
