FIRST EDITION OF ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT OBSTETRICAL BOOKS PUBLISHED AT THE TIME. 'With Mauriceau, Justine Siegemundin was responsible for introducing the practice of puncturing the amniotic sac to arrest haemorrhage in placenta praevia. She was midwife to the Court of the Elector of Brandenburg, and the most celebrated of the German midwives of the 17th century" (Garrison & Morton 6149). The illustrations are the first original obstetrical illustrations and 'not copied from Roeslin or Rueff' (Dawson). Garrison & Morton 6149; Krivatsy 11085 (imperfect); cf. Dawson 6160 (1723 edition).
