Halleck Place: Washington Publisher: Date: [1852] Description: 222 pp. 21x13 cm. (8¼x5¼"), modern half morocco & cloth. First Edition. Although the actual court case involved British-born California pioneer merchant Henry Dalton, who arrived in the early 1840s, acquiring the Rancho Azusa in Los Angeles County, the ramifications were more widespread, and the present volume covers a broad range of California land law. The contents are: "Report on the laws and regulations relative to grants or sales of public lands in California, by H.W. Halleck" and "Report on the subject of land titles in California" by William Carey Jones. OCLC/WorldCat lists only the copies at the University of California, Berkeley, and at Yale University. Lot Amendments Condition: Some mostly marginal dampstaining; near fine, with bookplate of John C. Broome. Item number: 232081
