THACKERAY, WILLIAM MAKEPEACE. The History of Pendennis. London: Bradbury and Evans, November 1848-December 1850. 24 parts in 23, 8vo, original printed yellow pictorial wrappers, uncut, a one-and-a-half inch split in rear outer joint of part 23/24 repaired, a blank corner of an ad leaf in part 7 chipped, some very slight fraying at ends of spines of seven parts, in two chemises made from the blue cloth covers of the book edition, in two red morocco pull-off cases. FIRST EDITION IN THE ORIGINAL PARTS, with the Pendennis Advertiser in each part and virtually all of the other inserted advertisements noted in Van Duzer except: part 15 lacks a 2-page advertisement and has another 4-page (rather than an 8-page) ad, part 18 has a 2-page ad not noted in Van Duzer, with 48 engraved plates (including engraved title) and numerous woodcut illustrations by the author. Van Duzer 165. A fine, exceptionally crisp set.
