The Journal of the Anthropological Institute of Great Britain and Ireland. London: Trübner & Co. and successors, 1872 - 1898. 28 volumes (vols. I-XXVII only, index volume to 1893), 8° (214 x 145mm). Numerous plates and maps, some coloured, illustrations. Near-uniform contemporary green half morocco, gilt, g.e. (a few joints slightly scuffed). Provenance : Frederic Ouvry (armorial bookplate in vols. I-IX, a member of the Anthropological Institute from 1868, a brief printed obituary notice appears in vol. XI); Frederick DuCane Godman (armorial bookplate). An interesting early run with significant contibutions from A.H. Pitt-Rivers and Sir Richard Burton The index volume attempts to list all the contributions made not just to the journal, but also to the various allied periodicals published between 1843 and 1891.
