Title: The Laws of the United States of America Author: Place: Philadelphia & Washington City Publisher: Date: 1796-1813 Description: 11 volumes. (8vo) approx. 20x12 cm. (8x4¾") period sheep, morocco spine labels. Early compendiums of the Acts of the congresses of the United States. The first three volumes are first editions, printed by Richard Folwell in Philadelphia; the fourth is published by Mathew Carey, Philadelphia, 1804; the remainder are published in Washington City, 1801-1813, Vol. 5 by Samuel Harrison Smith, Vols. 6-8 with no publisher stated, Vols. 9-11 by the Department of State. Vol. 2 with early inscription on front flyleaf, "To A.M. Lane, Esq. Collector - For the use of the Revenue Officer of Port Penn"; inscriptions at top of title page or flyleaf of Vols. 3, 5, 6, and 11 "Collr. Office District of Delaware." Formerly in the Wilmington Institute Free Library, with perforated stamps on title pages, paper spine labels, bookplates, "S" in white on spines (removed from some), a few other markings. Lot Amendments Condition: Covers worn, spine ends chipped, joints tender or cracking, a few covers detached; foxing/darkening to contents; good. Item number: 271969
