THE MEETING OF MAHARAJA MUDHOJI BHOSLE SEN SAHIB, RAJAH OF NAGPUR AND MAHARAJA ISHWARI SEN BAHADUR, RAJAH OF MANDI SCHOOL OF GHULAM 'ALI, DELHI, EARLY 19TH CENTURY Watercolour heightened with gold on paper, two leaders, each opulently dressed and with a huqqa pipe in hand, sit cross-legged on a red upholstered diwan before a window decorated with pietra dura which opens out on to a mountainous landscape, around them various other dignitaries kneel whilst servants around them carry fly-whisks and a pandan box, a scribe in the lower left hand corner takes notes, his qalamdan before him, and a guard with a threatening spear stands to the left, the figures identified below in delicate black nasta'liq , mounted, framed and glazed 10 7/8 x 15¾in. (29.4 x 39.5cm.)
