THOMAS DANIELL (BRITISH 1749-1840) AND WILLIAM DANIELL (BRITISH 1769-1837) MAUSOLEUM OF NAWAUB ASOPH KHAN, AT RAJE MAHEL Pencil and grey wash 48.5 x 64.5cm (19 x 25¼ in.) Engraved: T. and W. Daniell, aquatint engraving, for Oriental Scenery, 1805, series 3, no. 24 Literature: cf. Archer, Mildred, Early Views of India, The Picturesque Journeys of Thomas and William Daniell 1786-1794, 1980, no. 19 A preliminary study with rapid pencil drawing executed on the spot while in India, with distinctive handling attributable to William Daniell later worked up with watercolour and eventually engraved for Oriental Scenery 1801. Condition Report: Under glass and unexamined out of frame. Overall discolouration of the sheet, particularly around the edges. Some foxing. A diagonal fold of approx. 12 cm running from the trees into the sky upper right. A repair of approx. 6 x 7 cm in the corner upper right. A few abrasions, including in the dome of the temple and in the foliage in the upper left quarter of the sheet. Condition Report Disclaimer
