Tibet and Bhutan—Thomas Paar and Fritz KappCollection of portraits and a view of Darjeeling, circa. 1880s 6 albumen prints (average 152 x 208 to 199 x 279mm., or the reverse), comprising: 4 by Thomas Paar each captioned and signed in the negative mounted recto and verso on card, one unmounted attributed to Fritz Kapp, and a group portrait on a card mount A good collection of portraits. The photographs depict a full-length, and a half-length portrait of a Tibetan lady by Theodor Parr of Darjeeling (captioned respectively as a 'Tibetan Lady' and a 'Bhutia Lady'), a group photograph of three Bhutanese women by an unidentified photographer, a portrait of A 'Cooly woman' and a view of 'the Chowrasta' in Darjeeling, both by Paar. "Paar's studio was the site of some of the most glamorous performances for the camera ever created in the Himalayas" (Harris). LITERATURE:Clare Harris.
