(India - Photographs) Two travel photograph albums documenting India and Afghanistan from 1934-1940 Date Published: 1934-40 Description: 2 photograph albums containing over 890 mounted gelatin silver prints, some of which combined to form panoramas. A few additional real photograph picture postcards. Photograph sizes vary from 9x15 cm (3½x6") or vice versa to 6x8.5 cm (2½x3½") or vice versa. Album leaves measure 27.5x35.5 cm (10¾x14"). Photographs of people, places, Buddhist sculptures, architecture, architectural details and landscapes in Afghanistan and India on the eve of World War II, the collapse of the British Raj, and the subsequent Partition. Highlights include shots of the Bamiyan Buddhas (the monumental sculptures the Taliban destroyed in 2001 on orders by Mullah Omar), Kashmir, the Khyber Pass, portraits of various officials, political leaders, and sherpas.
