W C Forster, a 19th century rectangular cornelian intaglio, carved in low relief with a bust portrait of Dr Carmichael, turned to sinister and wearing an open necked shirt, (bezel measures 29.4 x 23.9 x 5.7 mm), signed, mounted in silver as a ring, Size N Dr Richard Carmichael was a celebrated Irish surgeon and Professor of Anatomy; at his death in 1849, he bequethed ú8000 to The Richmond School of Medicine, now the Carmichael School
