Contemporary specked sheep gilt, boards with roll-tooled borders, cornerpieces formed of mask, cornucopia and bird tools, spine gilt in compartments, gilt morocco lettering-piece in one, red speckled edges (some rubbing and scuffing, surface pitting caused by speckling, spine chipped, skillful repairs on corners and spine, lacking free endpapers). Provenance : pencilled check-marks on index leaf. FIRST EDITION. A FRESH SET OF ZOCCHI'S PLATES OF TUSCANY, which complement his views of Florence (see lot 59). The plates show Tuscan villas set amidst gardens and the surrounding landscape. The scenes are enlivened by human and animal activity, often of a humorous nature (a man fights to control his cloak whilst his hat is whisked away by a Tuscan hill-top wind). A second edition was published by Giuseppe Bouchard in 1754 and a third by Bouchard in 1757 (see the following lot). Brunet V, col. 1107; R.M.
