A CASED 16-BORE D.B. TUBELOCK SPORTING GUN BY JOSEPH MANTON, HANOVER SQUARE, LONDON, NO. 8778 FOR 1820 With rebrowned twist sighted barrels signed in full on the rib and with silver bead fore-sight, recessed patent breeches engraved at the centre and each with platinum line, platinum-lined maker's stamp, and platinum-lined touch-hole, grooved tang engraved with foliage and two fox-heads, signed engraved case-hardened locks, figured walnut half-stock, chequered grip, reblued iron mounts including butt-plate and trigger-guard each engraved with a martial trophy and foliage (the latter drilled through), trigger-plate with pineapple finial, silver escutcheon engraved with owner's initials, silver barrel-bolt escutcheons, and brass-mounted ramrod: in contemporary lined and fitted mahogany case (minor damage) with Joseph Manton trade label for circa 1820-1825 and some accessories including Hawksley powder-flask and a leather shot-flask, the lid with flush-fitting carrying handle and circular escutcheon, London proof marks, the barrels forged by Charles Lancaster 29¾in. barrels
