A FINELY CARVED AND INLAID HARDWOOD DISPLAY CABINET 18TH/19TH CENTURY With square corner posts enclosing tiered shelves framed by elaborately carved openwork scrolls incorporating stylized phoenixes, dragons, bats, butterflies, birds, insects, pine trees and auspicious objects, the upper right shelf with a hinged door carved with a border of birds and fruiting and flowering branches, the lowermost section with two doors elaborately carved with scholars engaged in various pursuits and accompanied by their young attendants, beside two drawers and a shelf with openwork door inlaid with stained bone, one narrow side carved with floral sprays in vases, the other with a crab amidst flowers and rockwork 52½ in. (133.4 cm.) high, 34 in. (86.3 cm.) wide, 15 in. (38 cm.) deep
