Carta Executoria for D. Miguel Verde Baraona à Correda
illuminated manuscript on vellum , in Spanish. Folio (350 x 190mm). 141 leaves, mostly in gatherings of 6. 26 lines written in brown ink in a fine humanist hand between a twice-ruled border in red, double-page painted frontispiece depicting Christ on the Cross and patrons at an altar, with a coat of arms in an elaborate gilt border made up of familial emblems, such as drums, a trumpet and a sword. f.239v with a finely rendered portrait medallion, over 250 five-line initials in liquid gold on red ground with gold scrolling highlights, a stamp with 1699 decipherable on the tail of each page. Late 19th-century full red paneled morocco by Dominique Corrado of Toledo with his printed binder’s ticket, spine stamped and lettered in gilt in compartments. Condition: some dampstaining and smudges to text, numerous undecipherable inscriptions in ink; spine rubbed, corners bumped. Provenance: Thomas Stainton, October 26, 1878. (inscription to endpaper).
