illuminated manuscript on vellum, in Spanish. Folio, 28 leaves (325 x 220 mm). A full-page illuminated hand-painted frontispiece tipped in, the upper third portion illustrating the Annunciation and a Conquistador trampling three figures. Felipe arms below, in an elaborate border with colored acanthus scrolls and mythological figures and creatures. 30 lines written in black ink in a neat calligraphic hand, between two verticals, ruled in red and black ink,15 five- and seven-line initials made up of interlocking yellow scrolls with infills of blue with white decoration. Contemporary green goatskin folder, covers panelled and stamped in gilt, later endpapers. Condition: paint surface worn in some areas; some stains and repairs to leaves, minimal wormholes, text block rebacked with later vellum strip; slight cracking to joints. Provenance: inscribed by Torres counter-signed by Salgado on the front flyleaf. an interesting document authorizing the collection of taxes. contains notations of the many constables, offices and towns of 16th-century spain, the final leaf countersigned by numerous officials. [With:] a [17th-century] decorated manuscript on vellum, a Grant of Arms, in Spanish, and also with a decorated manuscript on vellum , in Spanish, a Patent of Gentility from 1605.
