illuminated manuscript on vellum. (196 x 135mm). 30 leaves, with two leaves of an earlier 14th-century French manuscript in Latin, used as endpapers, presumably part of an earlier binding. Collation: 1 (in 8s); 2 (in 6s); 3 (in 9s, possibly lacking i); 4 (in 7s possibly lacking i); (+ iv paper flyleaves). 19 lines written in black and red ink in a gothic bookhand between two verticals, ruled in red, justification: 124 x 77mm. 37 one- and two-line initials of burnished gold with infills of pink and blue with white decoration, five one-line maltese crosses and additional line fillers of burnished gold with pink, blue and white infills, f.1r with a ruled border of pink, blue and burnished gold with white decoration. f.30v with the names Jesus and Maria, Cor the Latin word for heart, a large drawn symbol of a heart and the initials MV OV , an apparent reference to the Greek letters for “Mother of God,” all in burnished gold with alternating pink and blue infills. 20th-century brown morocco, covers tooled in a pattern of allegorical symbols and blind stamped with a central vine scrolling motif, spine lettered in gilt. Condition: few illuminated initials rubbed, some with severe loss of gilt, f.17 and f.30 outer edges cropped not affecting text, light spotting and thumbsoiling throughout, 2 earlier manuscript leaves heavily browned and torn in some areas; minimal wear to extremities.
