A VICTORIAN GIANT GILT-BRASS STRIKING AND REPEATING EIGHT DAY CARRIAGE CLOCK JAMES MCCABE, ROYAL EXCHANGE, LONDON, NO. 2739. CIRCA 1850 CASE: of typical McCabe design, with bevelled glasses to top and sides, the solid rear door with shuttered winding holes DIAL: gilt and florally engraved, with subsidiary seconds ring and singed 'JAMES MCCABE/ROYAL EXCHANGE/LONDON/2739', blued steel fleur-de-lys hands MOVEMENT: with five pillars, twin chain fusees with large gilt platform and plain balance to underslung lever escapement, maintaining power, strike/repeat on blued steel gong to back plate with repeat signature; original brass numbered winding key TRAVEL BOX: brass-bound mahogany with sliding front and bone signature plaque; case key 8½ in. (21.5 cm.) high, handle down; 6 in. (15.5 cm.) wide; 5¼ in. (13.5 cm.) deep
