Engraved portrait by White after Kneller and an engraved plate (portrait with a repaired tear and lacking a portion of the blank fore-margin, a little staining, soiling and spotting). Early 20th-century sprinkled half calf, panels of spine ruled in gilt (rubbed). Provenance : Paul H. Beves (bookplate). First L'Estrange edition. Wing A706. MILTON, John (1608-1674). Paradise Lost . London: for R. Bently and J. Tonson, 1691. 2° (323 x 192mm). 12 engraved plates (lacks portrait, one plate slightly defective at fore-corners with no loss, very small hole in O4 and Aa1 with very slight loss, crudely repaired tears in Ff1 & 2 and Rr1, upper inner corner of Xx1 torn away with slight loss, some staining, soiling and spotting).
