(Silver & Objects of Vertu, 31st March 2021) An early 18th century Dutch or German silver powder or spice box, circa 1730 by G.G (unascribed) An early 18th century Dutch or German silver powder or spice box, circa 1730 by G.G (unascribed) Of cylindrical form, with pull off shaped lid, the interior with a pull-out pierced grill, with incised concentric circles. The body with flat chased decoration of a running dog, a bird, and a goat among foliate scrolls against a textured ground. The lid with flat chased swags of laurel leaves centred with a rosette. Maker mark only underneath, with an incuse running dog above (?), each piece additionally marked with French provincial guarantee marks for second standard (1809-19). Diameter – 3.8 cm / 1.5 inches Weight – 31 grams / 1 ozt
