Beautiful Italian mosaiqué binding. Presumably Modena, second half of 18th century. Olive morocco gilt, decorated to a repetitive design with diamond-shaped red morocco onlays each tooled with a gilt lily and divided and surrounded by gilt rolls, flat spine divided into six compartements gilt with red morocco onlays in each panel, lettered in the second, dated in the third, the others with lily tool, further gilt edges and marbled endpapers. 16,5 : 10,5 cm. - Contains Pietro Aretino's Ragionamenti, Bengodi 1584 (reprint Amsterdam ca. 1600, cf. Edit 16), with the rare woodcut portrait. - Some browning, a few margins repaired, portrait with mended defective spot and repaired corner. Small wormholes at head of spine, minor neglegible rubbing in few places. The binding very well-preserved, endpaper with 18th cent. ownership inscription "Lodovico Mirandolano Modenese". Olivfarbener Maroquin mit rotem Rückenschild und 6 goldgepr. flachen Rückenfeldern, fünf mit roter Lederintarsie in Rautenform, davon 4 mit Lilienstempel und 1 mit Jahreszahl "1584", Deckel jeweils mit diagonalem Schachbrettmuster aus schmalen, kettenförmigen Bordüren, Felder alternierend mit roten und grünen Lederintarsien, diese jeweils mit Lilienstempel. Ferner mit Stehkantenvergoldung, marmorierten Vorsatzpapieren und Ganzgoldschnitt. 16,5 : 10,5 cm. Sehr schöner italienischer Meistereinband des späten 18. Jahrhunderts, möglicherweise aus Modena (hs. Besitzvermerk "Ludovico Mirandolano Modenese"). - Ob. Rückenfeld mit kl. Wurmlöchern, wenige minimale Bereibungen.
