Scott to "John" about an appearance by Bill Nye and James Whitcomb Riley, and to "Ask Gene Field to do his friends a good turn." * 1-page ALs signed by Victor F. Lawson and John Griscom. Apparently an agreement between the two, hand-written on W.K. Harrison, M.D. letterhead and dated June 9th, 1881. Regarding a "fast" Griscom will partake in with Lawson's assistance. All together 7 letters. Victor F. Lawson was an important proprietor and editor of Chicago news publications. The letters from Lawson are lengthier and offer a greater insight into the life of Eugene Field through this personal correspondence which covers Field's health, his own newspaper's circulation and the politics involved, and later a request for more "Sharps and Flats," contribution. James W. Scott was a prominent Chicago newspaper publisher, and established a few important Chicago news publications. The letters from him are on a more professional level, and involve a few invitations to engagements, but offer a valuable insight into the lives of two very busy men. Lot Amendments Condition: The TLs are mild to moderately creased at the edges, with the top edge suffering some very short closed tears; some smudging; overall good to very good. Item number: 208315
