[Original Drawings], six original watercolour over pen & ink or pencil drawings, each bearing signature of George Cruikshank mounted on card leaves, a couple of leaves loose, later full green morocco, gilt, by Root, titled [erroneously] "Original Drawings by George Cruikshank for Monsieur Tonson and others", small 4to, n.p., n.d. *** The drawings are captioned: "You'd better give over the child to me"; "Mrs Gilpin's Return"; and uncaptioned depicting an antiquarian; a dog greeting his master and servants; a pancake seller; and two gentlemen quarelling. The cover title is incorrect as Isaac Robert Cruikshank was the illustrator for John Taylor's comic poem. Provenance: Eldridge P.Johnson library, lot 39 sold Parke Bernet, 29 October 1946 (pencil note); Auben Gray & Tara Burkhart, Memphis (embossed stamp on blank leaf at beginning).
