DOGALE.] Ducal commission appointing Alvise Privli administrator of Bergamo, with transcripts of the laws and duties applying to the office. In Latin and Italian. Venice 1587.
DOGALE.] Ducal commission appointing Alvise Privli administrator of Bergamo, with transcripts of the laws and duties applying to the office. In Latin and Italian. Venice 1587. 217 x 150 mm. MANUSCRIPT ON VELLUM. 282 leaves. Cursive script. (Miniature at beginning very defective, several dozen leaves of beginning and end defective, stained.) ORIGINAL VENETIAN GOLD-TOOLED DARK RED MOROCCO over thick pasteboard, the sides decorated with fillets and small tools, the compartments of spine with open and hatched tools, 21 shaped compartments cut away from each cover to reveal decorated mother-of-pearl inlays (the paint mostly flaked off, lacking silk ties, repairs to hinges, remnants of original ties). Provenance : purchased from Emil Offenbacher, 20 October 1959. The style of the binding is reminiscent of the filigree and intertwined decorations in Venetian window arches.
