FILLMORE, MILLARD, President . Autograph letter signed ("Millard Fillmore") as Vice President, to George W. Crawford, Sec. of War, Washington, D.C., 11 March 1850. 1 page, 4to, very slightly yellowed at folds , otherwise in fine condition. Fillmore recommends an appointment: "I am not acquainted with Lieut. Russell, and cannot therefore say any thing about his qualifications for such an appointment. But if in the discharge of the duties of assistant Commissary to the expedition of Maj. Lally he gave satisfaction to the War Department, I should be much gratified on his father's account to hear of his wish being complied with."
