HARRIS, John (1667?-1719). Navigantium atque itinerantium bibliotheca. Or, A Complete Collection of Voyages and Travels , London: T. Woodward, A. Ward, S. Birt [and 12 others], 1744-48. 2 volumes, (412 x 264mm.). Titles printed in red and black, privilege leaf facing title in volume one, printed in double column, 61 engraved maps and plates, 15 double-page (map of the East Indies browned, map of Asia and the Russian Empire bound-in upside down, offsetting from a few plates, lightly spotted, a few leaves evenly browned.) Contemporary calf, spines decorated in gilt, contrasting lettering-pieces (joints spilt, front joint of vol. one detaching, spines chipped, extremities worn). Provenance : Sir Timothy Waldo (bookplate). Second, revised edition, edited by John Campbell. First published in 1705, the second edition contains many more plates and maps than the first. The work also includes probably the first account of Bering's second expedition and contains THE FIRST ENGLISH MAP OF NEW HOLLAND, in addition to maps of Australia, the Americas and two world maps.
