(i) AUTOGRAPH QUOTATION SIGNED of a quatrain (arranged as eight lines herein) from his famous poem 'Abraham Lincoln Walks at Midnight', written on the front pastedown of a first edition of Lindsay's The Golden Book of Springfield (1920); also inscribed on the front free endpaper: 'Good wishes to / Thomas G. Hamilton / Luray - Virginia / from Vachel Lindsay - / 603 South 5th / Springfield Illinois. / April 6, 1930', some light foxing, tan coloured cloth, slight wear to bottom edge, dust jacket with some chips, 8vo, 1920 / 1930 A bronzed, lank man! His suit of ancient black, A famous high top-hat, And plain, worn shawl Make him the quaint great figure that men love The prairie-lawyer, Master of us all. This is a copy of Lindsay's book about his home town inscribed to the first Principal of Luray High School, Virginia, Thomas G. Hamilton. 'Abraham Lincoln Walks at Midnight' is one of Lindsay's best-known poems. He was a great admirer of Lincoln, a fellow denizen of Springfield.
