Lewis and Clark, who were to explore the Missouri..." In: The Repertory . Vol. III, no. 88. Boston, Tuesday, 4 November 1806. 2 o. Bifolium. Lewis and Clark College does not record a similar announcement until the next day (5 November) in the Columbian Centinal and The Witness . See Literature of the Lewis and Clark Expedition p.227. "It is, with the sincerest pleasure, that we announce to our fellow citizens, the arrival of Captain Lewis..." In: American Mercury . Vol. XXIII, no. 1166. Hartford: Elisha Babcock, Thursday 6 November 1806. 2 o. Bifolium. Includes a lengthy report of the letter received by Jefferson from Lewis outlining their return to St. Louis on 23 September.
