Title: Lot of 9 Photographs of Jack London and His Circle Author: ** Place: Various Places Publisher: Date: Various Dates Description: Comprising: Vintage silverprint photograph. 7½x4½, of Lurline Lyons. * Vintage silverprint photograph. 5½x9, of Charmian London on horseback at the gates of the London's ranch. * Original cabinet card photograph, 5½x 4 on 7x5 card mount, of Cloudsley Johns. * Original cabinet card photograph, 5½x4, on 6¼x4j card mount, of Wm. S. Lurline Lyons was an actress and Charmian's cousin, she appears here as the bride in the 1916 silent film "Ramona". Photo of Charmian inscribed by her on back: "Jack's writing on the worn out soil! And behold!" Cloudsley Johns was one of Jack London's oldest and closest friends. Photograph of William Porter is inscribed and signed on back: "Your Sincere Friend, Wm. S. Porter. Sec'y. 95m. Mar 1st 95. Oakland, Calif." Dr. William S. Porter was London's doctor for most of his later life. He diagnosed London's renal disease in 1913 and advised that Jack change his habits of eating and drinking. He came to London's bedside at his death and had the death certificate changed from death by morphine overdose to death due to kidney disease. Typed caption accompanies 1 of the Sterling photos and identifies the woman with him as "Mrs. Warnock" - possibly Amelia Beers Warnock Garvin (1878-1956), a journalist and poet who wrote under the name Katherine Hale. The halftone image of the lake at the London's ranch is on the verso of an order form for the Mills & Boon edition of Charmian London's "The Book of Jack London." Lot Amendments Condition: First 2 items some some surface scratches, 2 corners creased on second item, others all very good or better. Item number: 193114
