Argomento del poema è la guerra civile tra Giulio Cesare e le forze del Senato comandate da Pompeo Magno. Il titolo del poema allude alla decisiva Battaglia di Farsalo (48 a.C.), in cui Cesare sconfisse Pompeo e la narrazione della quale occupa tutto il VII libro. Subject of the poemi is the civil war between Giulio Cesare and the forces of the Senate commanded by Pompeo Magno. The title of the poem alludes to the decisive battle of Farsalo ( 48 a.C), in which Cesare defeated Pompeo and the narration of that occupies the whole book VII.
