Photograph album documenting the life of photographer David Carlos Thompson Author: Place: Los Angeles and Shanghai Publisher: Date: 1915-1937 Description: Approx. 54 leaves. With original silver gelatin photos and ephemera. 26.8x03.5 cm (14½x12¼"), green cloth 18-ring binder. Photo album documenting the career of David Thompson a famed war photographer noted for his exploits to secure stories during World War I and the Russian Revolution and later his career as a filmmaker in Asia up until the outbreak of World War II. He had offices in Hollywood, CA and Shanghai, China. Photos include shots of Thompson and his wife Maria, with images showing location shots in China, the Philippines, Thailand, Borneo and Japan, many while filming "Dope" in 1927/1928, a film about the Chinese opium trade. Other notable shots include Maria in prison garb in the notorious Bilibid Prison in Manila, scenes of the second Sino-Japanese War, and Thompson waiting to be received by Mahatma Gandhi. Most images with captions supplied. Lot Amendments Condition: Wear and rubbing to cloth, some pages brittle , some staining, tears, and toning; overall very good. Item number: 319430
