Title: Printer's sample book to advertise fabric labels, with approximately 53 color lithographed stock labels and 130 other color lithographed labels Author: ** Place: New York Publisher: Trautmann, Bailey & Blampey, Lithographers & Printers, 15 Laight Street Date: c.1900 Description: Contains approximately 53 loose color lithographed stock labels held in their original printer's job ticket envelopes, with press run information identified on each in holograph. The loose labels, 7x9" include: (17) Odin Dog Heads, (4) Stock labels of woman, (14) Stock labels of woman, (9) Female beauty, (6) Female beauty, (2) red stag head and (1) Puritan woman. Plus, approximately 130 color lithographed labels tipped on to 11½x14½" loose album pages which were from the printers sample album of stock labels that could be ordered and then imprinted with the customer's name, etc. Each label has the printed identification stock number on it with the address of Trautman, Bailey & Blampey and range in size from 3x5" to 8x10". Most of the labels were used as fabric labels which would be attached to bolts of cloth, and many have very intricate and colorful designs. The dates of press runs on the job tickets indicate the period of circa 1915; however, the labels are examples of earlier stone lithography that were used over and over, well into the early 20th century. Some of the designs include: Indians, beautiful women, patriotic, art nouveau and very elaborate, decorative and colorful graphic border designs. All the sample pages and label envelopes are laid into a cloth-backed portfolio probably original to the printing company. Lot Amendments Condition: The labels are generally in very good to fine condition and are loosely tipped on to the sample pages. The labels housed in the job envelopes are fine and the cloth portfolio is very good with some overall age soiling. Item number: 165510
